uTrackWeb's Top 10 Tips for Websites

Getting a new website is not something that people do very often. As a result, the development of a website is often slowed down by easily avoided problems. If potential clients are aware of these problems in advance, they can side-step them.

That's why we've compiled our Top 10 Tips of what to do, and what not to, when commissioning a new website.

Trust: Let the designer have a strong influence in the process as they do this every day for companies just like yours. Trust them and you'll get the best results.

Constant revisions: It took Michelangelo over 4 years to paint the Sistine Chapel; your website will never be completed if you don’t stick with the initial design.

Precision: Be clear and focused with communicating; if it's going in the wrong direction, flagging it early saves time and $$$$. We value our reputation as we want you to sing our praises when we're done.

Lack of Content: Yep, this is BIG one we see time and time again. Website development is not a one-way process, so please don’t expect the designer to write about your company for you.

Preparation: Think about your objectives before starting so that everyone understands. By knowing your expectations early we have the best chance of giving you what you want.

Low quality imagery: Large images can be scaled down, but small images don’t scale up nicely. Remember this when you’re providing photographs of vehicles, locations, staff, etc. BIG is BEAUTIFUL!

Think Content: Start writing content early to avoid a panic. This sounds easy, but it takes more time than you think! Remember, this is what thousands of website visitors are going to see, so it has to sell your business!

No Clear Vision: If you don’t have an clear objective for the website, you will never be happy. Your designer will want to understand your needs, so think: "What do I want this website to do for me?"

Enjoy it: Creating a new website can be stressful, as it's not part of your day-to-day routine. That doesn't mean it can't be fun! As long as you listen to the experts (with experience building websites every day) you'll enjoy it!

Avoidable Delays: A well run website redesign should take a maximum of 4 weeks. When this doesn’t happen it’s often because of avoidable delays. Design and Developers cost time and projects that overrun because of client delays can incur additional charges*.

*Delays cause backlogs for our designers and developers, which cost uTrackWeb money and that cost may be passed on to you. However if we finish ahead of schedule we share the savings with you (so well-prepared clients actually get more value!!!)
